WHO WAS LOU COX?

Lou Cox was a man who spent a great deal of his life convincing people that "fitness is for everyone", regardless of age, sex, race, economic background or so-called physical limitations.

As a resident of Oakwood he developed programs in the greater Dayton area for people who did not feel fitness was an option. He coached people to reach for their goals in swimming and running. He designed fitness programs for people requiring heart surgery, and community exercise programs for us all. He taught people how to believe in themselves and stretch for their best. Lou Cox was a champion at breaking down barriers.

Early on, he encouraged women to believe in themselves and pursue swimming, running, or walking as a means of keeping fit. He was truly a mentor to the youth and a role model to seniors.

Lou Cox died in 1987, but his legacy of "fitness for all" has been and always will be the prevailing theme behind the Lou Cox Memorial Event.
