Volunteers Needed for the ORRRC Marathon

The 43rd ORRRC Marathon and Half-Marathon is fast approaching.  The date to mark on your calendar is Sunday April 11, 2010.

Without the unselfish dedication of so many volunteers, this event (as with all ORRRC events) would be impossible to produce.  Volunteers are the backbone of our club!   If you are not running this year, please consider volunteering your time.  If you are running, we can still use you to help out with packet pickup on the morning of the race.  As of 02-02-10, we need 10 packet pickup volunteers and another 50 course marshals and water stop volunteers.  If you are able to help out in any way, please contact Terry Murray at your earliest convenience.

Thank you very much!

Frostbite 5 Awards

For those of you who won an award at the Frostbite 5 but were unable to stick around for the awards ceremony (hey, we understand, it was Super Bowl day, after all...):  As of Tuesday February 9, awards can be picked up at Roderer Shoe Center in the Town and Country Shopping Center on Stroop Road in Kettering.

ORRRC Splash-n-Dash - January 10 - Status

Update from race director: The Splash-n-Dash and Just Dash races on 10 January will be held as planned. Much of the run loop is in decent running condition, with only a light snow covering previously cleared paths. Some sections, however, have not had any snow removal performed, and will be slow-going. Hopefully, some of the worst areas will get some work done on them today. In any case, a runnable course will be available. Its going to be cold, so dress accordingly!  :-O

Ready for the First Trail Race!

The RACE WILL NOT BE CANCELED.  Miss out on a trail race for a little snow?!  Really?

It's race week and the Dirt Dawg 8 Miler (Sat Jan 9th at 10a) is coming this weekend.  The trails should be awesome and the snow fluffy! (Don't let winter keep you away). You should be able to avoid getting wet at the creek crossings.

Was out today for a little trail TLC and took a couple of pics... have a look here.

Special thanks to those that have offered help as volunteers!

Those that completed the 2009 series will be able to pick up their shirt on race day.

Happy Trails,
Jeff

Turkey Trot Expo Updates

2009 Trot LogoJust about any time that you can get 7000+ people together in one place, at the same time, during the holidays, well, you can pretty much expect a party.  So throw in some music & DJ entertainment, some free prizes & giveaways, and cool stuff to see & do, and what do you get?  The Turkey Trot Expo, of course!

Every year, on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, The Baum Opera House turns into the place to be.  This year is no exception.  Not only will we be distributing packets and accepting on-site registrations from 11:00AM to 7:00PM, but we will also be doing much more.  For example...

Revised Date for the Christmas Exchange 5k

wrapped giftPlease note that we have revised the date of the 2009 Christmas Exchange 5k race.  This event was originally scheduled for Saturday, December 19.  The new date is one week sooner: Saturday, December 12.

Ironically, the original Dec. 19 date was itself a revision that was instituted after the printed calendars went to the printer.  So this latest change actually brings us back to match the printed calendar on Dec. 12.

This fun low-key event is not your everyday ORRRC race.  The Christmas Exchange 5k is a fun way to celebrate the holidays through racing with fellow members of your ORRRC family.  Instead of an entry fee, all participants must bring a wrapped gift (valued between $5-$7).  At the end of the race, we will have a giant gift exchange (hence the name of the race) among all participants.

You can get all of the details here.  Hope to see you there!

Vote for Our Turkey

Update: After a week of voting for the name of our new turkey mascot, the results are in.  In total, we had 72 ballots cast.  And it was a very close race between 'Burgy the Turkey' and 'Tom the Trotting Turkey' with Burgy leading for most of the week.  But in the end, 'Tom the Trotting Turkey' edged out a small lead in the final day of voting.

So our official winner is: Tom the Trotting Turkey!
