Too Much Caffeine?

The International Marathon Medical Directors Association physicians are recommending that you limit caffeine to 200 mg or lress (that is the amount in about two cups of diner coffee.) Although the evidence is not conclusiive, there seems to be an association between large doses of caffeine and cardiac arrest with runners that do NOT have any blockage or heart abnormalities.

A runner on a rural road finds herself in the ditch - with a dead deer - and then sees a truck speeding off. Apparently the truck hit the deer, the deer hit her, and they both landed in the ditch. Didn’t see that one coming. Read more at http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/event/article/id/194106/

When is it OK to miss your marathon goal by 20 minutes? When you stop to save a life. Just like Mike Allen frequently reminds us at the trail races – if you see someone who needs help, please stop and give them aid. These two medics were running the New Orleans Rock N Roll Marathon and saw another runner down. They stopped and provided CPR until the paramedics arrived and then continued their race. The downed runner lived and the two medics finished the race!

TX Runner Defends Herself During Attack

An early-morning Texas runner fends off her attacker with pepper spray and an air horn. The attacker was hiding in the bushes in a park where she was running. Although it is best to avoid running alone in the dark, this runner had taken her personal defense into account with sprays, horns, and self defense training.
