Looking back over our safety articles from the past few years, it seems that we spend a lot of time writing about violence against runners. And while it is certainly important to us that you escape any sort of violent encounter, the truth is that your safety is significantly more likely to be compromised by an overuse injury than by an attacker.
So here is an article that might help you avoid the pain and inconvenience of some common running injuries. In a nutshell, researchers from Indiana University found that fatigued runners can unknowingly change their mechanics - which results in an excessive range of motion in the joints generally associated with overuse injuries. The lesson being that you might be able to avoid many of these injuries, if you simply stop running once you reach a certain level of fatigue.
