Starting Line Countdown

When is it OK to miss your marathon goal by 20 minutes?

When is it OK to miss your marathon goal by 20 minutes?  When you stop to save a life.  Just like Mike Allen frequently reminds us at the trail races – if you see someone who needs help, please stop and give them aid.  These two medics were running the New Orleans Rock N Roll Marathon and saw another runner down.  They stopped and provided CPR until the paramedics arrived and then continued their race.  The downed runner lived and the two medics finished the race!

Have you taken CPR training?  It is easier than ever.  Groups such as American Heart Association offer a 2.5 hour online class on your own schedule, and then you just attend a 45 minute skills class to practice those skills.  Don’t have time for even that?  The American Heart Association offers these guidelines for laymen: Do chest compressions only – no mouth to mouth.  Do fast forceful compressions to the beat of “Staying Alive†by the Bee Gees.
